REVIEW! | L'Oreal Colour Riche Eye Shadow #211 Blue Haute Couture

Last week, I decided to bust out my Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV and do something a little different: teal eyeliner.  I used Hijack and it turned out really gnarly!  It made my eyes look really green so I was happy, and I moseyed off to work.  About 2 hours later, my co-workers were cracking me up to the point of tears, and I ended up laugh-crying the liner right off my left eye!  I looked like I got one eye done and decided I was Kat Von D and could roll out of the house with two different eye looks.  I don't keep a spare teal eyeshadow in my desk drawer (surprisingly) - and I had a $5 off coupon - so I headed to CVS to see if I could find a dupe.  There I came across the lovely L'Oreal Color Riche Eye Shadow in #211 Blue Haute Couture.  Voila!

I hoped the top teal shade would work as a dupe for UD Hijack in a pinch and ya know what?  It did!  It wasn't anywhere near as pigmented as Hijack so I had to apply it wet and really pile it on, but it turned out well.

L'Oreal Color Riche Eye Shadow #211 Blue Haute Couture contains 4 shadows:

Shade 1 is a teal green shimmer.  Urban Decay Hijack is a more pigmented blackened blue teal shimmer.
Shade 2 is a pale pink champagne shimmer.  I had to load the brush 4 times (and really swirl it like a wine aficionado) in the dry swatch below.  Urban Decay Sin is only slightly similar; Sin is a much more pigmented rose gold.
Shade 3 is a blacked navy blue.  It applied very powdery dry and appeared like a faded wash of matte black.  When applied wet, the blue shimmer really came to life!  I think it would make a great liner.
Shade 4 is a matte black.  Applied dry, it was a very sheer wash of black.  Applied wet, it's a solid black with a very subtle sheen.

These shadows are as not rich and buttery as their higher end siblings from Urban Decay, so plan to pile these puppies on if you want more than a very sheer wash of color.  Also, they do kick up a good bit of shadow dust when you're swirling the brush in the pan.  A lot of people have pooh-poohed the gold plastic packaging because it holds fingerprints, but I think it's pretty in a fun art deco sort of way.  I think it's a nice upgrade from their typical black and clear plastic pans.

The improvements to the packaging are great, but the formula of these shadows was sheer and powdery and could use some tweaking.

My rating: C+ (I recommend applying them wet for best results)
Price: $7.95 and up depending on the retailer
Where to buy: Amazon, CVS, Drugstore.com, Ulta

I hope everyone has a fabulously relaxing weekend where they're not subjected to hearing "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" for the 829,000th time!  T.G.I.F., y'all!  :)

  1. This blog reminds me of Ross Matthews and his friend going to Target to have $5 worth of fun. You had 5 bucks to purchase a cool item. This was a lot of fun and your arm looked bedazzled after the sampling. Fun, fun.
