REVIEW! | Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Fantasme

Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Fantasme
Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Fantasme is a gel-based shadow with a very interesting, slightly springy texture.  It reminds me a bit of Maybelline Dream Bouncy blushes.  Fantasme consists of white and silver glitter in a clear base.  Because of the clear base, you basically get a sweep of pretty sparkle that looks good on it's own, but can also be layered over colored shadow.  All Illusion D'Ombre shadows come with a small foldable shadow/liner brush designed for use with these shadows.  Often, brushes included with shadow are cheap and scratchy, but this one has soft-but-firm bristles and works very well with this product.  Which is good since it's quite a pricey purchase!

Emily - Wearer of Fab Makeup
I splurged and bought this last spring when I was in love with everything Emily Maynard wore on The Bachelorette;  her hair and makeup always looked fabulous.  Which, obviously I know was at least partially because she had a 24/7 beauty team and magical lighting people, but the makeup itself was always so flattering and pretty.  After some swatch googling, I thought Fantasme looked like one of the shadow shades she'd worn on the show.

What girl doesn't need a little sparkle in her life?  Especially when it comes in a glass pot with that luxurious logo emblazoned on the lid!  I figured if the eyeshadow was terrible, I'd clean out the pot and use it to store Advil or Tart N' Tinys on my vanity table.  The shadow turned out to be really pretty, so for now the Advil remains in it's bottle.  :)

It's very hard to get accurate photos of this shadow!  The photos dull down the razzmatazz.  In reality, this shadow's poppin' like a grease fire at Burger King!

I really wanted to test out the wear time with and without primer with this shadow.  On my left lid, I applied the shadow to my bare lid with my finger, and I applied it over shadow primer and used the included shadow brush on my right lid.  Both lids showed creasing after a full day at work and errands afterwards (9 hours).  When I looked in the mirror when I got home, the eye without primer had almost no Fantasme left to speak of!  What was there was scrunched down into the creases like nasty white caterpillars of doom.  The eye that I'd used primer on held up MUCH better!  There was some fading and creasing, but it didn't look anywhere near as totaled as my left lid!  Check out the photos and see what you think.  This further confirms my feelings that shadow primer isn't just an optional step in the process, it's a necessity!
Sans shadow primer
Fantasme's wear-time performance wasn't what I'd call "Long Wear" on it's own, but with a primer it performed very well.  Fantasme is just a beautiful shadow when you want a little surprise of sparkle when you blink, or you're looking to punch up your regular eye makeup.

  1. I love it on you! It's so ethereal and pretty! I wish I could wear these but they just don't last on my oily eyelids, even with a primer. Bums me out. :(

    1. Thank you so much! I'm sorry these don't work for your lids, even with primer, b/c they really are sparkly little panthers! I find they last a lot longer on me with a metric ton of NARS primer. Without it...well...my oily lids see it as a personal challenge to take down the shadow as quickly as possible!
