FIVE FAVE! | Easy Eyes

I've started using the stopwatch timer on my phone when I begin applying makeup and I've been shocked to discover my typical morning routine takes around 20 minutes, half the time spent on the eyes!  In an effort to save time, I've been reaching for easy, one-step shadows and I thought I'd share my five favorites!

MAC Groundwork Paint Pot.  An incredibly subtle way to define the lid and add a touch of polish.  Apply this matte medium cool brown with your finger and blend out the edges.  DONE.

MAC Jest Eyeshadow. This bubbly shade of pink champagne brightens up the eye area like a cup of morning joe.

Maybelline Color Tattoo Bad to the Bronze.  If you don't own this shadow yet, it deserves a spot on your wish list tout de suite!  This bronzy brown sparkling BEAUTY is brimming with dimension. [Review here]

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer.  Sometimes you just need a little definition, and what's easier than using your go-to bronzer?  Swirl a fluffy blending brush across the pan and sweep it back and forth on your crease.  The easiest eyeshadow look there is! [Review here]

Urban Decay YDK.  This was one of my first loves in the single-shadow-look game!  It's a glorious bronzy pinkish brown shimmer with so much depth.  I think it's my all-time favorite UD shadow!

What are your five fave "easy eyes"?  How long does it take you to do your makeup in the morning?

  1. I've been wearing so much UD Naked 2 this week. I never thought about it as being very shimmery until I spent a month or so wearing predominantly mattes. Now I look at it and go, "Whoa, parrrrrtaayyyy!"

My makeup generally takes me over 30 minutes. BUT. I don't wear makeup every day of the week, I don't have anywhere to be first thing in the morning, and when I do, it takes me closer to 15 minutes. For me it's more about enjoying the experience than saving time. For now. But if I ever work outside of the home again, I'm screwed!

  2. Hey Kristen, great picks! My easy eyes probably revolve around Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks, Chanel Illusion d'Ombres, and By Terry Bronze Moon! When I want quick, I don't want to take any brushes out. That's why cream/stick eyeshadows with enough depth on their own are my first picks. I really must try a MAC Paint Pot at some point. I have no idea why I have never!

  3. You just reminded me to take out the Naked2. It is so neglected :-P I haven't been wearing much eye shadows, but when I do, I just use those I picked for Project Make A Dent. Easy, eh? Takes the thinking of out the process. LOL! It's nearly month end though, and I think it'll be time to switch things up :-)

  4. LOVE all of your suggestions, and I own most of them except for that MAC Jest, and holy crap I need it STAT. Anything to make me look caffeinated without the actual 3 cups of coffee or red bull. And to answer your morning makeup questions, usually 20 minutes as well. If I'm doing a date night with hubby or girls, make it 30 bc I like to take my time and add lashes!!

  6. Yayay! Great post! I am also always shocked when I see my videos (for tutorials)... Almost an hour, two hours even?? Of course I edit that all out and putz about while filming, but still.... that's quite the marathon for makeup. Haha! I can imagine I spent equal amounts even for everyday (when I do put on makeup... some days it's a solid ZERO minutes hahah). I LOVE using bronzer in the crease.. and JEST????? GORGEEEEEEEE. PS; Too Faced Lip Cremes came in and I'm sweatin' like a prostitute in church... ;) ;) ;)

    MUCH LOVE!

  7. OMGGGGG I think I need MAC Jest, it's gorgeous! I actually don't have any MAC shadows. What do you recommend?

  8. Groundwork has become a firm favourite of late, I love it! Nice selection. I'd also say BAd to the bronze and Constructivist. Then probably satin taupe and the taupe shade from the BM epiphany duo.

  9. Nice picks! I don't wear eyeshadow every day, but when I do I tend to go for a similar palette like this. Neutral easy!

  10. Oh I need way more than 20 minutes!!! ^_^ What can I say, I just enjoy putting on makeup regardless of how "minimal" I plan to wear it. LOL. You just remind me to use the Maybelline Color Tattoo again. I have completely forgotten about them! Blame the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick and Marc Jacobs Twinkle Pop. ;)

  11. All I've ever done were "easy eyes", so I'm trying to experiment lately with some more complicated looks. Groundwork always looks so appealing whenever other people showcase them! I kind of want to dive into the pot and blend myself within, lol.

  12. I own all of these except Groundwork..and thats because I didnt like how it looked on me when I swatched it in store. Oh wait..I dont have Jest either lol ( have a dupe though). Nice picks as usual Kristen! You probably know Bad to the Bronze is right up there for me. Also Mac's paint pot in perky, Chanel mirage and Buxom eyeshadow in Golden Retriever.

  13. I love MAC Jest and using bronzer in the crease! When I'm running late, I usually skip the shadow altogether and just put on liner and mascara, but a very quick alternative is to use an eye brightening wash all over like Jest or MAC Naked Lunch :).

  14. I actually really like MAC All that glitters on the eyes for the day with nothing else.. but these days its all about Chanel Mirage! I LOVE it! :-) So glad I bought it *pat on the back* also it creases a lot and practically vanishes by evening so I wear it on top of an eye primer and that works..

  15. Ha ha!! LOL at whoa party! Naked2 is just such a classic. I love to take my time with applying makeup b/c it totally is a moment of zen, but I'm not terrifically skilled at rising early enough to allow for it! I really need to get on the early bird tram. I admire morning people so much!

  16. Oh yes, lady - Caviar Sticks and Illusion d'Ombres are another great single shadow option that looks pulled together! I've been lemming MAC's Indianwood Paint Pot for years. If you google for swatches, you'll see why - it looks so multifaceted and special! Constructivist is another beauty. They really are great little shadows!

  17. Yes, using your Make A Dent shadows is actually pretty brillz! I've only used the NARS blush I picked for that a handful of times. I fear it will be 2021 before pan is achieved there.

  18. LOLOL!! Yes, Jest is a must-have! Such a beaut and universally brightening! Caffienated without the coffee FO SHO!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Exactly! They really simplify your routine!

  20. Thank you! Zero minutes every so often to let the skin have a day off is great. I usually never wear makeup on Sundays unless we have plans to see other humans outside of our house! ALMOST 2 HOURS?! Holy hand clappers! that's a marathon! I'm always impressed when people swatch an entire eyeshadow palette on their lids in a single post. Like, HOLY COW how long did that take!?!?! I can't even.
    I'm pronouncing that "Pen-uh-lope", btw! ;)

  21. Wow, Lily! No MAC shadows?! Jest is a beauty, so obviously that would make my list! I also love Cork (med matte brown) and Free To Be (coral) for transition blending, Cranberry is an absolute stunner, Mythology is a shimmery orangey copper that's beautiful. If I could only own 1 MAC shadow, it would be Sable, a shimmery bronze with a lot of intrigue on the skin. It's probably my favorite MAC shade of all-time! I also adore MAC for selling their shadows as pro palette refills so you can place them into a Z-palette without having to depot them, or buy 2 or 4 and get a MAC palette for very cheap. LOVE!

  22. Gaelle, you inspired me last time to bust out Constructivist last time you featured it and you've made me want to get it out again! It's so beautiful! And yes, Satin Taupe is another easy peasy shade that looks really interesting on the eyes.

  23. Thank you, peach tartlettes! Neutral easy is the way to go! :)

  24. I love taking my time with makeup, too, but I am not good at allowing time for it in the mornings before work. Are you one of those organized people who wakes up early and has coffee and leisurely applies their makeup? If so, I am so jealous of your resolve!

  25. you should do a feature post on Extra Complicated Eyes, Liz! ;) LOL at you wanting to dive into Groundwork and blend yourself in it! I know exactly what you mean, which I think makes us both insane in the proverbial membrane! It just looks so...inviting and delicious! :)

  26. thanks, Dee! I can definitely see Groundwork being one that people need to try on first. I'm pretty fair and it BARELY shows up on me! Ooh Perky has been on my wish list for a few months! Have you ever reviewed it or done a look post? I'd love to see it on you!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh yes, Carolyn, Naked Lunch is another legendary option that makes a big impact! I should start using liner more. It does have such a nice effect but I never think of it when I'm running behind! Have you ever tried MAC's Pearlglide liner in Lord it Up? Jaa and I have a fan club for that liner, lol!! It would look so lovely on you!

  28. Hi Divya! All That Glitters! I'm pretty sure I have that one - I'm going to check tonight, so thank you for the reminder! LOL at patting yourself on the back for Chanel Mirage! Too funny! :D

  29. Hmm I didnt review it but I used it in a look that I showcased in this post http://www.howdoesdeedoit.com/2014/06/26/mini-mac-haul-nyc/ It really does help the colours to "pop" . Having said that to , inked in pink by maybelline color tattoos can do a very similar job ( just not as peach)!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ahh I definitely need to swatch Constructivist soon! I can't believe I've never tried a MAC Paint Pot!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hii Kristen! You know, for me if I had to choose the one cosmetic that has the most impact on me (well, let's be honest here...there are way more than just one, HA!!), I'd say liner would be probably the top one for me. It makes a big difference for my eyes, otherwise I feel like they're undefined! (If I'm running really, *really* late, I will just put on liner and skip the mascara!) Lord it Up looks GORGEOUS! Unfortunately Pearlglide has smudged on me in the past, so i haven't tried it for years since. I looked it up though just now and UD Hustle was compared to it, and I have and love Hustle. Gorgeous colors!! :) Have a wonderful weekend! xoxo

  32. LOLZIES. I white girl "can't even" right now... Was my Facebook status like a couple weeks ago, FO REAL WE ARE RELATED. And award for best pronunciation of Penelope goes to YOU!

  33. Ohh yes, I do think I need to add Bad to the Bronze to my wish list ASAP!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh yes, girlfriend! GET YE THE BRONZE! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ooh, I might try Hustle when I finish Lord it Up - thanks for sharing that tidbit! I have issues with the glitter from Lord It Up migrating into my eyes - but only sometimes?! It's so weird. the color is so pretty though that I just take the gamble, lol! I'm actually wearing it now! and it's not bothering my eyes at all. but still, UD liners are truly fantastic and ALWAYS stay locked n' loaded, so I really appreciate you mentioning the possible dupe! My Lord It Up pencil is down to about a 2 inch nub so I will need to replace it soon! YAY FOR CAROLYN! :)
