Review! | Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation

I've recently met a foundation that makes me want to shout about it's WONDERful-ness from the rooftops!  That foundation, my friends, can be found at drugstores and will cost you about $10.00 bucks USD.  It's the Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation!
This foundation is an extremely weightless medium coverage option that is virtually undetectable on the skin.  The texture feels like a dry oil, and it blends into the skin with the greatest of ease.  Part of my life-long makeup routine is finishing my face with a setting powder to keep the oilies at bay, but I've often skipped that step when I've used the Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation.  This product dries very quickly to a natural, skin-like finish that looks like you-but-improved.  After watching a few vlogger reviews, I nearly skipped trying this because a few people said it tended to break up after a few hours on oily skin.  I am beyond happy I was intrigued enough to take a chance because this is one of my favorite foundations - period.  Not just "favorite drugstore foundation".  This outperforms numerous high-end bases I've tried.  I have a t-zone so slippery you can fry chicken on it, and this foundation has never cracked, creased, or broken up on my face.
The first rule of Fluid-Touch Foundation?  Shake it like a polaroid picture!  Then, using the handy dandy dropper, I swipe 2-3 pulls of product onto the back of my hand and apply it to my face using a wet Beauty Blender or a Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.  I get a bit more coverage with the brush, but for me, this foundation really sings with the Beauty Blender!

No foundation / Beauty Blending Fluid-Touch onto the skin
Left side: no foundation, right side: Fluid-Touch / Full face of Fluid-touch
Bottom 4 pictures are 3 fully made-up pics of the Fluid-Touch and then the bottle itself.
I've been using this foundation since the end of August, so it's been tested through extremely hot, humid weather, as well as chilly, dry temps, and it holds it's own on both ends of the spectrum.  I didn't take it with me on my trip out west simply because of the glass bottle packaging (I didn't want any post-flight surprise suitcase disasters), but I missed it.  I was so excited to use it again when I got back home!  I absolutely love the way it makes my skin look.  It makes me look like I've used a smoothing filter when I haven't!

Sidenote: I do not know why the pictures above look SO blurry and smoothed.  They have not been edited in any way.  I suspect it's my iPhone front-facing camera.  I used the rear-facing camera for 2 of the bottom ones, which I'm sure you can tell since they aren't all "soft focus" looking.  I'm having camera issues lately (my regular camera is just not very good but buying a new one is extremely expensive and out of the question right now) so I have to rely on the iPhone.  I'm sorry these pictures aren't up to snuff.

The Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation is definitely one of my favorite finds of the year!

Have you tried this foundation?  Name one of your favorite finds of 2014!

  1. You're making me want to step out RIGHT NOW to get a bottle. I'm not a big fan of the dry oil textured foundations because of my own skin issues, but your skin looks glowy and amazing, not shiny!

  2. Girl, I LOVE this foundation. I got this from Target months ago I don't even know what made me buy it. I used it... and fell in love. One of the best foundations I've found from the drugstore yet. Like you said, it even beats some of my high-end foundations. I like to use my Real Techniques Stippling brush with this foundation. I haven't tried a beauty-blender. I'll definitely give that a go!

  3. First of all; your selfie game is just slaughtering everyone. You ARE SO PRETTY HOW. Back to the review, thank you for the laughs hahaha. I love your explanations of everything. $10 is a pretty solid steal for a foundation trumping high end products! Do you think this would work well with dry skin, too? I can't quite fry a chicken on my T-Zone, although it's a bit oilier than the rest of my face.. I'm hoping you say "YAY GO TRY" and that the product comes in a light enough shade... I'm very tempted to jump out and grab this..

    Much Love!!

  4. this is perfection on your skin! your skin is glowing and you look so happy. i've also been having camera issues but i dropped my camera and my lens is stuck. why do cameras have to be so expensive! your pictures always look so bright and clear, i think thats the most important. i'm so glad this worked for you.

  5. WOWZA. AND I WISH I HAD OILIER SKIN NOW LOL. This looks amazing on you! But these oil foundations don't work for me. They just catch on dry flakes and look horrible. :( Maybe I'll get oilier again after this menopause thing is final? SEE YOU'RE MAKING ME WISH FOR THE END OF MENOPAUSE NOW HAHAHA!

  6. WOW WOW WOW!! I have to see if we have this here. And I have to hope really hard they have my foundation shade. Drugstore brands here tend to bring in medium to dark shades, and very rarely bring in the lightest shades. So friggin' annoying!

  7. The love the finish! It's so glowy and natural on you. :)
Not sure if it's for me though because I have dry skin and in general I like sheer and buildable foundations.

  8. Your skin really looks airbrushed, and like you said, almost photoshopped! Whether it was the camera or the foundation, your skin looks hella good, miss!

  9. I have not tried it yet but I will now that I've seen your review!!! It looks gorgeous! I am with you on the "blurred lines" photos that sometimes happen with the iPhone - I know people prob think I've downloaded some wacky photoshop app to make my skin look perfect too but it's just the iPhone doing us a favor I guess:) Work it, and own that beautiful skin girl!!

  10. This foundation really works with your skin! It's flawless. I purchased it a few months back and couldn't get past the smell. I guess I have a pretty strong sniffer? It also didn't stay much around my mouth and I need something that will last 8+ hours during the work day. Did you use a primer? Maybe I'll dig it out of my makeup graveyard for another go! (:

  11. I really like the sound of this - I'm not a fan of thick foundations so I hope it comes here soon! It looks so good on you, although your skin looks amazing without foundation! Beautiful pictures :)

  12. Now I know what to buy with my Ulta $3.50 off $10!! Hehe. Thanks for a great review and comparison photos, Kristen! ;D The foundation really makes your skin look sooo smooth and touchable! Errrm... ok creepy. LOL.

  13. finally i see someone else talking about this! i reviewed this a few months ago and have used it in a few tutorials--it works better for me in the summer than when it gets cooler!

  14. This really looks so flawless in photos! I really must order this online! We don't have it in store here in singapore! Thanks for the review!

  15. Okay, just like you, I told myself I wasn't going to try it because I read the same things on it. But I'm glad to hear your honest opinions! I have really oily skin as well, so now I'm tempted to try it. You have beautiful skin!

  16. You have got me intrigued. I walked past this foundation so many times thinking it would be too lightweight for me but now I might have to give it a try!

  17. Looks so gorgeous on you Kristen! You know what..I do love the texture but haven't been able to find the right match for my skin here in Canada..I know that the US has a few more shades than we do which sucks because I do like it otherwise. I still wear it but I need to make sure I blend it in in with another powder etc to make sure it doesnt look "off". I have been loving so much stuff from Maybelline of recent though!

  18. That's why I always include the CONS on my reviews because some people are curious to try even more when there is a flaw. Maybe human nature? Anyway, i hope to find this foundation around because sometimes I am lazy to apply finishing powders. Hahahah!

    LOL @ Jaa

  19. Awesome pictures! I've been contemplating Maybelline True Match Lumi but now I might just try this one first!

  20. This foundation looks so amazing! Thanks so much Kristen for letting us know about this -- it's on my radar now! Do you know if the color selection is pretty good? Your skin looks SO flawless!! So glad this is working with you. I actually bought Chanel PLV based on your rec and I am really liking it so far! But, I'm super curious about this one now, too!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hey Carolyn! Thank you! The flawless look is definitely a credit to this foundation because I have lots of pigmentation and several blemishes. I'd say the coverage is right up there with Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation but for 1/4th the price. As far as color selection, it comes in 12 shades in the US that look like they'd suit most everyone with the exception being someone with very dark skin, like a Lupita Nyong'o complexion. I'm excited that you bought the Chanel PLV and are liking it! That is definitely one of my favorite foundations as well! :)

  22. Thanks, Torey! I've tried the True Match Lumi as well and it's a beautiful foundation, too! Very similar to Lancome Teint Miracle. It provides less coverage than the Fluid-Touch and has a very dewy finish, where the Fluid-Touch has a natural finish. If you like light-medium coverage with dewiness, go for the Lumi; if you like more coverage and a natural finish, go for the Fluid-Touch. I'd love to know which one you end up trying!

  23. Ha ha, Laarni! The cons are always important to share, and you're right - it does kind of increase curiosity! :D You'd love this is you like to skip finishing powder!

  24. Thank you, Dee! Aw, I'm sorry you can't find a good shade match in this in CAN because the finish and coverage is so incredible. Boo for limited shades! Maybelline has been doing some amazing things lately! They're definitely my favorite drugstore brand with all of their great products and new innovations!

  25. Yay! I hope you do try it and love it! It definitely turned into a favorite for me and I went in thinking it wouldn't work!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thank you so much, Lily! I have been having so many skin issues lately that I really appreciate your sweet comment even more! You should definitely try this foundation. I think it's SO GOOD, and especially wonderful for oily skin!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks for stopping by, Sharlynn! Beautiful name, btw! I hope you can get your hands on one because it's an amazing foundation!

  28. I think this might be an HG foundation for oily skin! I've seen a lot of dry skinned people saying it catches on dry bits and doesn't work great for them, so maybe the oil in the product mixes well with oily skin?! Have you tried Maybelline True Match Lumi Foundation? It was too "lumi" for me in the summer, but otherwise was a beaut! I think it would be great for drier skins!

  29. Ha ha!! You are hilarious, Jaa! :D Thank you! And yes, definitely give it a try! I'd love to see a professional Hello Jaa review of this complete with astounding photos!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thank you so much, Sam! :D You would love this foundation! It is so thin and weightless, I've forgotten I'm wearing it a few times!

  31. Hi Kiki! Thanks for stopping by! I can't smell anything!? But my nose isn't an ultra sniffer, lol! I didn't use a primer with this and it stays on all day, but everyone's skin is different. I also found it went on better and stayed set when I applied it with a wet sponge versus my fingers or even a brush. Good luck! :)

  32. Oh yay! I can't wait to hear what you think of it! I have heard a few people with dry skin say it didn't work super well on them, so it will be interesting to hear your thoughts. And yes, what is with that halo effect?! I've tried to use the back camera and a mirror for face pictures but it's tedious to the max and most of them still look cray-cray! And thank you - your comments about my skin were so kind! I've been having Zit Fest 2014 ever since the week before I left for AZ! Thank you for the uplifting comments in the midst of a blemish war, lol!!

  33. Aw, thank you so much, Melissa! You are a sweet peach! :)

  34. Hi Xuvious! :D Thank you so much! I've heard a few people with dry skin say this caught on their flaky bits and didn't work ultra great, but I'd never deter anyone from giving it a try -- especially if they can purchase the Fluid-touch from a store with a great return policy if it doesn't work out!

    ReplyDelete
  35. That is friggin' annoying! It's the opposite of what Canada seems to have - they tend to exclude medium/olive and deep tones! That's bananas. I hope you can find it there in a suitable shade match because it really is a stunning foundation!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thank you so much, Lizilu! <3 I really can't believe how wonderful this foundation makes my skin look. It is super torn up right now, but this foundation makes it look like I have maybe 1 zit and 0 pigmentation issues. This foundation is lies in a bottle and I LOVE IT! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey Devon! Yes! A fellow Fluid-touch lover!! This stuff is simply le bomb! Now you're making me want to try using it with a stippling brush! :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ha ha WHAT?!?!? Thank you so much, Stephanka! Week has been made!
I can't say whether or not it would work for dry skin, but I wouldn't discourage you from trying it if you can buy it from CVS, Walgreen's, or Target so you can return it if it doesn't work wonders for you! The whole reason I was hesitant to try it was because a few people said it didn't work well for oily skin, but then BAM! It's one of my favorites EVER. So I say give it a chance and maybe it will be fantastico for you, too! Much love to you! :)

  39. Thanks so much, Hannah! I do not know why cameras must be so pricey, and I'm sorry your lens is stuck! NOOOOO! The newest models now have a feature where you can WIRELESSLY send pictures to your phone or computer. How cool is that?! No more cables or SD cards! Although I can't really be shelling out $1200 for that kind of convenience, lol!

  40. I wish for the end of menopause for you just so you can be DONE with that highly un-fun portion of life! Have you ever tried the L'Oreal True Match Lumi foundation? It's pretty beautiful with a dewy finish and lighter coverage. It's a little too lumi for my oily skin but would probably be amazing on drier skin! What's your fave drugstore foundation anyway? I'm curious! :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. No! I keep meaning to try that one, and I will soon I promise. Probably any of the Bourjois foundations to be honest. None of the others I can find a match in!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I suspect it's YOUR FRIKKIN FLAWLESS FACE, BABE! I've tried a new Maybelline foundation recently as well (not this one though) and it has a very flawless finish as well - only downside is it melts easily in this tropical country :( Shame. you look lovely as always babe and ugh, dont know why but you make the best foundation posts - always a clear before/after side-by-side comparison that makes me want to buy everything you review!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh my gosh, you face is FLAWLESS!! I've always had a love for Maybelline products and this product and your review confirms why!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh my goodness, Shari! You are too kind! :D Thank you so much!! Yes, things are definitely different in tropical climates where humidity is king! It has such a marked effect on makeup, especially base products!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Aw, thanks so much, Jen! I'd say Maybelline is my favorite drugstore brand as a whole. I know I can always find something great from them, and this foundation is next level!
