34 Things I've Learned In 34 Years

Today was my birthday!  I had a great lunch at Houston's with my Mom, Dad, and Jason, and afterwards my Mom and I tore up Sephora together!  I thought it might be fun to share 34 things I've learned on my 34th birthday!  Some of these are things I still need to work on, so it's good to have them written out as reminders. :)

1. Smiles are free and should be doled out as often as possible.
2. Laughter IS the best medicine!
3. If someone makes you feel good, spend a lot of time with them and tell them they are awesome.
4. If someone makes you feel bad, do whatever you need to do to get the hell away from them.  Life is too short to spend it with someone who hurts your feelings.
5. Work hard.
6. BE KIND.
7. Try new things.  If you've never tried pan-fried Peruvian sea bass / African dance / Selena Gomez music, how do you know you won't love it unless you try it?
8. Take time to take care of yourself.  Be it a nice long bath or having some quiet time to read a novel.  You need this time to recharge your batteries!
9. If you're PMS-ing, HAVE THE DOUGHNUTS/COOKIES/FAMILY SIZE BAG OF CHIPS.
10. Don't ever be embarrassed about the things you like that make you happy, unless they're seriously harmful to you/others.  Saved By the Bell re-runs have not yet been proven to be damaging, so you're okay there.  ;)
11. If you've always dreamed of dying your hair / trying caviar / starting a blog, DO IT!
12. If you see litter on the ground, pick it up.  Be a good citizen.  It's the little things.
13. Don't just watch from the sidelines.  Interact with people who intrigue you.  You never know, you may just make a friend!
14. Wear SPF but don't pledge to never see the sun again.  Being outside is awesome!
15. Don't leave the house in anything you're not 100% comfortable in.  Chances are, you'll spend the entire day/night wishing you'd worn your favorite jeans/dress/shoes/bra.
16. Know your strengths and your weaknesses, and work on improving both.
17. Exercise.  It's not fantastically fun, but you'll be happy you did it later.
18. "Spring" clean often.  Donate things you don't need to charity.  A chaotic environment doesn't breed a sense of peace.
19. Spend one night a week doing whatever the hell you want to do.
20. Buy the lipstick.  Especially if it's limited edition.
21. Send people cards / treats / flowers for no reason other than to let them know they are awesome human beings and that you love them.  Showing people you're grateful for their friendship and love should not only take place on holidays.
22. Spend as little time as possible worrying about what other people think of you, unless they are your boss. :)
23. Watch the birds outside your window from time to time.  It's very relaxing and interesting.
24. If someone asks you to keep a secret, keep it.  Unless it's a matter of national security.  Being trustworthy is one of the best traits a person can have.
25. The other best trait, in my opinion, is to be resourceful.  Can you fix a drawer with a cotton sock, the wick from a Bath & Body Works candle, and 2 pennys?  If you can, I want to be best friends with you!  Try to figure things out on your own.  You'll be really proud of yourself when you get it right!
26. I am 34 years old and still haven't used algebra.  If you don't understand trigonometry, don't feel bad about yourself.  Just make sure you learn how to balance a check book and manage credit cards.  Those are math skills that {quite literally} pay the bills!
27. Step out of your comfort zone every once in a while.
28. Don't be envious of others even if their life appears perfect.  There's a pretty solid chance it's not!
29. Don't put anything in writing you wouldn't want put up on a billboard.  A former boss told me that and I thought it quite sage advice!
30. Donate blood.  Donate to charity.  Donate your time if you can't give monetarily.  You will FEEL FANTASTIC!
31. Be a good listener!
32. Say or do something genuinely kind every day.
33. Say something genuinely kind to yourself every day.
34. If you're reading this, know that you are loved!

TAG! | The Spring Bloom Tag ✿...and PS: I'm now a Mrs.! :)

HAI GUYS!!!!  Reporting live from Atlanta, GA as Mrs. Bartholomew!  The wedding was the 26th of April and it was fantastico.  I'd been extremely stressed about being mega nervous during the ceremony and walking down the stairs in a pouffy dress without falling down like an ornery drunken llama, but on the actual day?  I was just a big happy ball of spirit hands!  I was cool as a cuke!  I was laughing - LAUGHING, I say - before I walked down the aisle.  I may or may have danced to Hall & Oates "You Make My Dreams Come True" immediately before tying the knot in my get ready room.  ;)  I have been holding out on penning a new post until I had some wedding pictures to share but it might be a little bit before we get them back {update: got a slideshow sneak peek Friday! If you make it to the end of this post, there may be a few pics!}.  I can't wait to do a "what I wore" post and share my #fotd since I did my own makeup!  Anywho, I figured this tag was a great way to get my blogging feet wet again!  Thanks to Liz and Tracy for the inspiration.

1. What is the biggest change in your beauty routine when spring rolls around?
LIGHTNESS!!  I like lighter weight foundations and/or tinted moisturizers, lighter eye shadows, and I tend to switch from lipstick to gloss.  Lately I've been hard core rocking the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, NARS Salamanca Lip Gloss, and Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss in Natural Beauty.  All 4 of these items accompanied me on my honeymoon to Puerto Rico and were in heavy rotation!

2. What is your favorite spring eyeshadow combo?
Really loving NARS Alhambra and Ramatuelle and "fun" liners like Urban Decay LSD 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil and Stila Turquoise Smudge Stick.

L to R: NARS Salamanca, Flower Beauty Coral Floral, Neutrogena Rich Raisin, & Tarte Natural Beauty
3. Do you prefer a nude lip or bold lip for spring?
I prefer a quieter lip year-round so spring is usually no exception, but I have been rocking brighter/bolder glosses and balm sticks lately.  Steppin' out of my comfort zone and loving it!

4. What are your top 3 accessories for the season?
SCARVES, sunnies, and lipgloss.

5. Favorite spring candle?
Bath & Body Works Coconut Leaves.  I leave the top off of it in my bathroom at all times so it always smells like a tropical paradise in there!  I also just picked up Sunset Beach and it's subtle and groovy.

6. Floral, stripes or polka-dots?
I have no allegiance.  I just like prints and I cannot lie.

7. Which new trend are you the most excited for? (fashion, beauty or both!)
Glowy skin!  Ok, so it's not exactly new, but I've been loving wearing Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light on the non-T-zone portions of my face.  Coming from a former glow loather {a gloather?} (oily skin will do that to ya), this is huge!  Also, organic/natural beauty.  I'm almost through with the large tub of rms beauty Coconut Cream and I'm madly in love.  Will post a full review SOON.

8. Which food/drink do you enjoy the most during spring?
I usually don't like white wine, but we happened to have 8 bottles of it leftover from the wedding so we've had a glass here and there with dinner and I'm starting to dig it!  Also, Mexican Coke and Cran-Apple juice.  As far as food, my husband (squeeee!  Sorry, still feel jazzed saying that) and I ate seafood almost exclusively on our Puerto Rican h-moon and neither one of us had any of our usual gastro-probs.  So we've been pescatarian-ing it as much as possible since we've been back and we're both feeling great!  For a time, I thought I had IBS, but maybe I just had HFES (horrible food eating syndrome).

9. What is your spring signature scent?
Ya know what?  I am in love with Rihanna's Rogue.  Chance encounter with it last weekend at Macy's whilst waiting for my mom to check out.  I expected it to smell musky and strong based on the display and the bottle design, but much to my delight, it's a very gourmand scent that reminds me of a carnival!

10. Which pastel color is your favorite?
Hmm...I'm really more of a neons gal!

11. What is your go to spring hairstyle?
I had 7" cut off in Puerto Rico and I've been wearing it down a lot!

12. What is your favorite spring nail polish?
Kind of obsessed with Essie's Clambake for pedicures!

13. Show us the shoes you'll be rocking this season!
Flip flops and cork wedges!

14. What is your best spring break memory?
Ha!  Man I wish FT workers got spring breaks.  My best spring break memory was from college when a group of us caravanned down to good ol' Panama City Beach, Florida and had a great time!  It was awesome.

15. Spring is the season of love, what do you love the most about it?
Cherry blossoms, that spring smell of green leaves, pollen, and general amazing nature things happening, birds singing, finally getting to wear sandals and flip flops, listening to pop music on Top 40 radio with the car windows down, the hope of summer fun on the horizon, and this year, getting married to my very best friend amidst the spring flingy-ness of it all!
I tag anyone who wants to participate!  Let me know if you do the tag so I can check out your answers!
