Update! | Project Make A Dent #1

I haven't shared my Project MAD progress since first posting about it back in August of 2014.  I figured it was time for an update!
These were my nominees:

  • Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Shade 01 Rose Shimmer
  • Clinique Long Last Lipstick in Bamboo Pink
  • Dior Addict Lipstick in #260 Rose Deshabille (review here)
  • NARS Deep Throat Powder Blush (review here)
  • Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer (review here)
  • Urban Decay Virgin Eyeshadow (Naked Palette review here)
  • YSL Matt + Radiant Pressed Powder

  • Here's what they look like now:
    I had 3 pan-hitting successes!
I hit pan on the Too Faced bronzer and finished the YSL powder and the Clinique Bamboo Pink lipstick!  Wee!
I actually lost the Clarins Lip Perfector within 2 weeks of my original post and only recently found it (in a desk drawer with pens and Sharpies of all places...), so not much progress was made there.  I haven't been using UD Virgin much and I'm having trouble remembering to take it out for brow highlighting purposes.  My lips have been quite dry most of the winter so I've been wearing mostly lip balms and moisturizing lipsticks, hence why the Dior Rose Deshabille still looks the same!  I've been using the NARS Deep Throat, but clearly not enough to show a peek of pan.

I'm currently rounding up my nominees for Project MAD #2 and would love for you to join me!  This was really fun and a big thanks to Lily at Chloe Ash for inspiring me to participate!

Did you finish anything recently?  What would you like to make a dent in?

    1. congratulations!! I am going to join you with a slight variation on approach.. I have started pulling out products from my collection at the beginning of each week and lay them out on a tray -- the idea is that I can only use those products for the week. Then, I'll change it up the following week. I've been doing this for a couple of weeks and it's been a good way to rotate products and get some use out of them. I also like that I find old favourites OR products that I don't love and wonder why I keep them (these then go in a 'share with friends/family pile.' or if they are old, I toss it). It feels sooo good to hit pan, doesn't it? I am close to hitting pan on my Deep Throat.

    2. This is a great idea. I should do a bit of rearranging and try to use up some of what I have in my cosmetic graveyard. (;

    3. Oh yay! PAN! Empty! Dent! Great job, Kristen!

I really only finish skincare products and makeup such as mascaras, eyeliners, and brow pencils. I am very close to finishing my Dior Spring Ball Addict Extreme tho! Maybe I should get down to finishing it. I love it and it has been discontinued, but I have two backups so I see no reason why I shouldn't at least kill the first one :)

    4. What a successful first project! You got mad pan hitting skillz. Lol. Other than skincare, I'm not using up anything else atm. Hardly go out with a little baby and it's just silly wearing makeup at home. Thanks for the mention!

    5. Brava, my dear! I don't often actually try to finish something up. But I am in the works of completing a NARS Laguna/Orgasm mini. I will only be using up the bronzer (O is pointless on my complexion) and I am cheating heavily (there is such a small amount left that little pieces break off every time I use it so I'm chucking them in the trash), but by golly, I'm determined! XD

    6. Oooh I like this idea too! I'm gonna try it!

    7. Nice job! So much #PANPORN hahaha! I haven't done anything like this, but I like Michelle's idea of the weekly products. I'm gonna try that! And hitting pan on a blush is something that I USED to do before the crazy set in. Now it's like seeing a leprechaun drinking an appletini :P

    8. Yay! I'm so glad you're joining in your own way! The makeup tray approach is solid. I have definitely done that and found it to help weed out loves and less-than-loves, lol! I think whoever reaches pan first on Deep Throat should send the other a new NARS blush in a different shade, lol! There's some motivation! :D

    9. It really is fun, Kiki! I thought I wanted to finish the Too Faced bronzer, but the closer the I get, the less I really want to! I love it and don't really want to buy a new one. That's a first! I'd love to know which products you "target for eviction", lol! :)

    10. Ha ha! Thanks, Sunny D! ;)
I think body care is my most finished item, and then mascaras, definitely! I've only finished one brow pencil before but I think I'm getting close on one of my Brow Wiz(zes) - lol. 2 back ups of Spring Ball - you are awesome! That is a shade I always relate with you as a signature color! Kill that first tube! Victory is yours!

    11. Thank you for convincing me through your Project MAD posts to give this a go, Lily! Next time I'll be sure to not lose one of the nominees, lol! Doh. I never wear makeup at home either. I likes to let my skin breathe! (o';'o)

    12. Ooh, girl! You can DO IT! I was cracking up at the image of you dumping the broken off chunks of Laguna! I would totally do that, too. I know this duo will show up in an empties post in the next couple of months - I'm cheering for you! :)

    13. Ha ha! Thanks, Tracy! I love Michelle's weekly products idea, too. Such a great way to casually weed out the loves form the lemons and keep the stash on pointe. LOL at the leprechaun with an appletini comment! :D I just need to finish a blush again! It's been years! The last one I hit pan on was a bareMinerals blush sometime in 2008. Don't be surprised to see NARS Deep Throat in my second installment! Gotta re-up my pan-hitting commitment on the blush I think I'm closest to finishing! *insert bicep curl emoji* :)

    14. Wow!! Thats a lot pan been hit! :-) I have been consciously trying to do that too but nowhere close to finishing anything!

    15. omg dying over #panporn. LOL. and the leprechaun. (laughing and snorting). ;)

    16. OMG - I love incentives!! Yes, let's do it! You will win though. I'm so bad. LOL. @TracyBeautyReflections I still owe for the Mata Hari you sent me a while back. I think of you every time I wear it which is actually quite a bit!

    17. Thanks, Divya! I know, when I finished that lipstick I cheered out loud, lol! I never finish lipsticks! You can hit pan on something; I know you will, girl! :)

      ReplyDelete
    18. Yas! Game on, sistah, game on! Incentives always help! And I wouldn't count on me winning - I had 6 MONTHS to hit pan on Deep Throat and failed, lol! Half a year, man! Oops... ;)

    19. Right on - let's do it. I guess I'll be wearing Deep Throat tomorrow (insert evil laugh).

    20. It's working well for me! Give it a try for sure.

      ReplyDelete
    21. LOL!! You're awesome. DT Challenge Day 1 begins tomorrow! *mwah ha ha ha ha*

    22. Wow, congrats! This is seriously impressive! I've hit pan on such few things, it's embarrasing. :p

    23. You're doing really good, I am proud of you. You know I have a hard time making a dent in any kind of product, except for some individual shades in my eyeshadow palettes. Finishing a lipstick? That's really impressive.

      ReplyDelete
    24. You're doing great! You really hit pan on the YSL powder! Keep it up!

      ReplyDelete
    25. I just told myself yesterday I can't buy any more makeup until I use something up! Haha. Great post, it makes me feel more motivated!

    26. Not bad, Kristen, not bad at all! Good for you to sticking to the project :-)

    27. I have a pH color changing (yea not so much) blush that I should use up or toss. I think that's on my list. As well as a few odd ball colored MAC singles I bought because "they were pretty." Only to get home and discover I had five exactly like them. Oh makeup problems.... haha

      ReplyDelete
    28. Was it really August that you first started this!? Yowzahs! Shoutouts to Deep Throat that just WON'T GIVE UP THAT PAN. I love this MAD thang and how there are like strategies being concocted in the comments section... #seriousbusiness haha!!

      Much LURVE!

    29. You did so well to hit pan on that bronzer, I have a teensy Nars Laguna pan that I can't wait to finish up! I was thinking of doing this challenge but I've hit pan on a lot of the products I want to use, so today I posted a 'use it up' challenge. Until they are gone I don't think I'll jump in on the make a dent, but once they are I want to single out another blush and pan that baby!

    30. I wish I could stay loyal to one product for more than a week! LOL. I get bored too easily. You're doing so great, though. I wish you more success! Haha. Will you be repurchasing the YSL powder?

      ReplyDelete
    31. Woohoo! You know how much I love hitting pan too! Great focus and determination is what it takes - good going Kristen!

      ReplyDelete
    32. Thanks, Laarni! :D Oh no! Your bronzer foiled you from finishing it completely! Boo!

      ReplyDelete
    33. Thanks, Xuvious! That's how I felt until I started focusing on making it a goal - then it happened pretty easily! The hard part is using the same thing every day. A love of variety doesn't help finish pans, lolol! But that's the fun part!

      ReplyDelete
    34. Ha ha! Thank you, Agata! :) Hitting pan in an eyeshadow palette is a feat in and of itself! I just don't know that they day will ever come where I'll finish an eyeshadow because I use different ones so often! And yes, I was SO excited to finish that lipstick!! I wanted to put it in a framed shadowbox, LOL!

      ReplyDelete
    35. That's great to hear, Jenny! You can do it! *insert picture of Rosie the Riveter* ;)

      ReplyDelete
    36. Thank you, Melissa! :) It felt so good to finish a few things!

      ReplyDelete
    37. Right?! Couldn't believe this was my progress since August! Deep Throat is withholding pan in a big way. The day I see a sneak peek of shimmering SILVER showing through, I will seriously do a dance!! And yes, I was cracking up at the MAD strategies in the comments! Love it!

      ReplyDelete
    38. Thank you, Emma! <3 Ooh, can't wait to go read your use it up challenge post!! That's even better than making a dent!

      ReplyDelete
    39. LOL, Jaa! I know! It's hard to use the same thing over and over. I think if we were programmed like that, we probably wouldn't be bloggers/beauty junkies! In that same vein, I probably won't repurchase the YSL powder just because I'd like to try something new! It was a true favorite though!

      ReplyDelete
    40. Thank you, Vita! Hitting pan makes me so happy, and I know you love it, too! "Great focus and determination" - it's like the Olympic of pan hitting, LOL! :D
