REVIEW + GIVEAWAY! | Too Faced Hangover Rx Replenishing Face Primer (Giveaway ended 2/12/15)

Happy Sunday!  I hope your day has been relaxing and your batteries are recharged for the coming week's adventures.  We are SO JAZZED about the return of The Walking Dead tonight!

"The new world's gonna need Rick Grimes."
Aside from Rick Grimes, what else does the new world need?  How about a reliable primer for people who can't tolerate silicones?  Enter the Too Faced Hangover Rx Replenishing Face Primer, $32.00 USD.  After testing it throughout the fall and winter months, I have to say it's been wonderful!

I can only speak to the experience I've had with it as someone with combination skin.  In the cooler months, my skin is less oily in the t-zone and incredibly dry in other areas.  In the mornings, I wash my face and follow it with a pump of the Hangover Rx Primer.  The slightly watery cream sinks in right away and leaves my skin feeling soothed and plumped up.  It has a super faint coconut water scent that fades almost immediately.

About that 'cone-free life...
As I'm sure others with oily/combination skin can attest, oily skin and silicone-based primers get along about as well as Kenya Moore and Vivica A. Fox.  Which is to say...they don't.  For me personally, applying silicone primer to my face nets results that rival my adolescent Code Red oil production.  As a teen, I had to wash my face three times a day or else it felt like I was rocking a solid layer of Crisco.  As a mid-30s gal whose oily complexion has finally given way to more of a combination vibe, silicone + my skin takes me back to those greasy fretful teenaged days, which is a #tbt I'd rather avoid.  Since the Hangover Rx Primer is silicone free, it doesn't "fill in" pores, but it does prep the skin for foundation and extends the wear time.  The coconut water and electrolytes contained in the primer do a great job of hydrating the parched areas of my face (cheekbones and temples) without making my t-zone overly shiny.

If primers with silicones have caused abundant oil production or breakouts for you in the past, I think this one is worth a look.
G I V E A W A Y !
How would you like to try it for free?  The generous people at Too Faced provided me with a Hangover Rx Replenishing Face Primer to give away to one lucky reader!  To enter, simply leave me a comment below telling me what your favorite part of your skincare routine is.  Do you love the feel of smoothing on a serum or sudsing up with a foaming cleanser?  What's your favorite skincare product in your arsenal right now?

The winner will be drawn on Thursday, February 12th, by Random.org and contacted by me through email.  Giveaway is open internationally.  Bon chance, beauties!

  1. LOL this post cracked me up big time! Code Red oil production. Haha! Did you seriously have to wash your face 3 times a day?! Wow! And I thought my face was oily! :D I'm pretty sure I told you about this but the tester of this product at my local store has such a bad smell to it for some reason and that's why I never bother testing it. I love silicone-free primers so I'm definitely curious about this one even more now.

My favorite part of my skincare routine is putting on the VERSO Night Cream which is also my favorite skincare product right now! I'm addicted to this thing! It has improved the condition of my skin in so many ways especially with acne. I don't think I'd ever want to live without it ever again. :D Thanks for the opportunity, Kristen, and have a great Sunday evening! Muah!

  2. Yes! I definitely remember your experience with it and have since smelled it no less than 37 times, but I've never smelled anything more than a faint coconut water type scent. I really think the tester had somehow spoiled? Maybe it was very old? I definitely think you should still give it a shot since you already like 'cone free primers! Maybe you'll be the lucky winner and can try it for free! Woohoo! ;)

And yes, 3 x a day face washing...SO happy I'm not a teen any more! I felt like the oil would never stop! :) I really need to check out this Verso line. Anything that helps with acne is a CHAMP!

  4. My favorite part of my skin care routine is exfoliating with a soft washcloth in the shower. I do this 2-3 times a week from my face down to my toes and it always makes me feel so much..brighter! Hands down my favorite product is prescription tretinoin.

  5. i have found it ok, but i have the world's driest skin, hehe, so it makes sense that you would like it. I'm gonna use it in the summer!

  6. My favourite part of skincare routine is definitely removing makeup at night. As much as I love putting it in the morning, removing it at night makes me feel fresh and is my ritual. I love using The Body Shop Cleansing Oil - three pumps remove any hardcore mascara I may have! :)

  8. To me, nothing is better than taking off my makeup after a long day. That freshly-washed feeling is the best!

I may have to give this primer a shot. My super oily skin can't handle silicone-based primers, so it would be nice to find something that actually works!

  25. 'Cone-free! 'Cone-free! 'Cone-free! I'm not even here for the giveaway, but I love me a silicone-free feature :D

My favourite part of my skincare routine WAS applying moisturizer (I was trying out this gorgeous face oil by Odylique), but then I had to go and break out in some kind of dryness/allergy rash and now moisturizing is mainly just uncomfortable :( Necessary, though -- it's so crazy dry in AB right now!

  26. I love prepping my face, and wearing makeup, but I would say that the best part for me is taking it off. I loveeee when I moisturize my face after I have washed my makeup off, it just feels like when you are very thirsty and you drink a huge glass of water.

  36. Oh yes! Masks are AWESOME. My skin's been so dry lately that I've been applying oil underneath a moisturizing mask. The results are two thumbs up! I've never tried GlamGlow but I've only heard positive raves from people who have tried them so their masks must be amazing! Definitely adding one of those to my wish list! Thank you for entering the giveaway!

  37. I agree, Mary-Cameron! "Taking the day off" so to speak, is seriously the best feeling! I think you'd love this primer if you have super oily skin! It's the only one I've ever tried that didn't generate more oil. Thank you for entering the giveaway!

We're actually going on another little day trip of locations tomorrow for V-Day! The best place we've been so far was the little town of Sharpsburg which was used as the place where Rick, Michonne and Carl ran into Morgan when he was obsessed with "clearing". It's a beautiful small town!

Oh jeez, so sorry about your moisturizer situation! :| Have you ever layered a face oil underneath a moisturizing mask and let it chill for an hour? I've been doing that this winter with the rms beauty oil and various hydrating masks and it really amps up the moisture! Mucho love, my friend!

  62. When I had oily skin, it was because it was dehydrated. I started using Tarte Maracuja Oil and The Body shop Vitamin E Day Cream (the non-spf one) at night. In the morning I used TBS Vitamin C Day Cream with SPF30, let it sit for 10 minutes, used a blotting linen, then applied makeup. Worked. like. a. charm. I still recommend TBS Vitamin C and right now I'm using (and love!) Supergoop! Skin Soothing Mineral Sunscreen SPF 40. It isn't as heavy as the TBS one. I plan to keep purchasing this one. Another option to consider is the Supergoop! CC Cream. The finish and coverage are fantastic :)

  63. Thank you so much, Alison! I have heard good things about the Supergoop! CC Cream. I might have to give that one a go this summer! :D
