Gri-Gri, $28.50 USD, is a limited edition Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow from Chanel's Fall 2013 Collection Superstition. To celebrate a very happy occasion (a clear screening at my recent doc's appointment), I treated myself to some Chanel!
Gri-Gri (which means "Gray Gray") is a shimmering taupe that leans mauve. If you've yet to find a taupe that's warm enough for you, Gri-Gri might be the ticket! This shadow is a dream; soft, finely milled, pigmented. Because it's so soft, there is a little powder kicked up when you swirl a brush through it, but I didn't have any fallout when I applied it to my lids. In sunlight, Gri-Gri is a fête of glimmering glamour. Glamouring glimmer? You get the idea. Très jolie, n'est-ce pas?
Chanel Gri-Gri: Dry over primer / Dry without primer / Wet without primer |
Gri-Gri wore flawlessly over primer (shout out to NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base!) for 14 hours! I wore it Saturday and it outlasted a day of car trouble in the oppressive heat, a few summer thunderstorms, and humidity out the wazzoo.
I checked my shadow stash for dupes...
bareMinerals Upgrade, NARS Lhasa, Chanel Gri-Gri, LORAC shimmering taupe (from the Mint Edition Palette for ULTA), Urban Decay Sin |
bareMinerals Upgrade, NARS Lhasa, Chanel Gri-Gri, LORAC shimmering taupe (from the Mint Edition Palette for ULTA), Urban Decay Sin |
As you can see from the swatches above, bareMinerals Upgrade and NARS Lhasa are darker and grayer, and UD Sin is off the dupe map completely. The closest dupe I have is the taupe shimmer from the LORAC Mint Edition palette from Ulta, but it's more sheer and pink and less shimmery than Gri-Gri. All swatches were done over Urban Decay's Original Primer Potion.
If a warmer taupe is what you seek,
Gri-Gri could make your knees weak!
Like so many great beauties, she's limited edition,
So hit your local counter soon to bring your dreams into fruition!
Enough bad poetry for now! Au revior! ;)
My Rating: A+
Where to Buy: Chanel
GORGEOUS! When I did my Chanel haul a week ago, they were sold out so I didn't even get to see it in person.
ReplyDeleteYep, definitely a gorgeous shade!
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOD. I seriously NEED this! At least I need to swatch it! I don't use eyeshadows wet often, but I do systematically use a primer, and look at how gorgeous this is over a primer! <3
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful shade, I really a, loving taupe shadows at the moment.
ReplyDeleteP.s congrats on your clear screening.
Maybe Its Megan Leigh xx

ReplyDeleteYou silly :-) X
ReplyDeleteI blame you lol I just bought Gri-Gri yesterday (went to a different Nordstrom that did have it in stock) and I just love it!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Yay! I'm glad you tracked it down and especially glad that you love it!
ReplyDeleteVery nice !!!
ReplyDelete"Gri Gri" is a play on words (in french), that means "lucky charm" and the sound is the same as "gris" (gray).
A french fan.
Thank you so much for sharing! I love France and all things French so I love hearing that! :)
