Review! | Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo

Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo: This is the one dry shampoo I have repurchased time and time again!  Since I've gone through countless cans of Clean Freak over the years, I thought I should share it's glory with you, my lovely readers.
I'll answer what I consider to be the top 3 most critical dry shampoo questions:
1.) Does it absorb oil and allow you do go days before shampooing your hair? It absorbs oil really well and allows me to wear my second day hair up in my go-to messy bun without the roots looking disgusting.  I don't get days on end of seemingly clean-looking hair with the Not Your Mothers, but I've never been able to go more than a day with any other product either.  My hair is very oily; if yours isn't, chances are you could work 2-3 good hair days out of this dry shampoo.

2.) Does it leave white marks in your dark hair? Yes, until I floof my hair about and work it in, then it disappears.  It has a matte finish, which is great because the last thing my oily hair needs is added shine!

3.) How does it smell?  Clean and not overpowering in the slightest.  The scent fades almost immediately.

INGREDIENTS
There is nothing I don't love about Clean Freak, from it's excellent price ($5.99 USD for 7 fl oz) to it's accessibility (it's available at all major drugstores, grocery stores, big box retailers, and online from Drugstore.com, Amazon, Target, Walgreens, etc.  I like to use Google Shopping to find the lowest price plus shipping), to the fact that it does exactly what it claims.  I've tried numerous high-end and drugstore dry shampoo options, but I've always returned to Clean Freak because, in the words of Tina Turner, it's "Simply the best!  Better than all the rest!" ;)

Have you tried Clean Freak or any of the other offerings from the Not Your Mother's line?  What's your favorite dry shampoo?

  1. Hey Kristen, I've never heard of this brand but the name alone cracks me up a little! Dry shampoo for some reason isn't popular in Taiwan. I never used any till I came here! My favorite is the Rene Furterer one, although I do like the Klorane ones as well. I've tried Batiste, but that is too drying for my hair! It becomes a tangled mess so that's a no.

  2. Love that you formatted this in a questions answered post!! Those were three questions I would have asked! I do not have a go-to dry shampoo, in fact, I don't have a dry shampoo that I've liked yet!! I WILL try this one, because I love using it for extra volume on clients.. Even on clean hair. It's an awesome way to add texture to beach waves, too!! At $5.99 I'm sold! Thanks for the recommendation love bug!!

  3. OK confession. I thought the name of this dry shampoo was the title of your blog post. LOL!!! We don't get a lot of dry shampoo options here. Those sold at Sephora are really expensive, and I'd rather just wash my hair every day :-)

  4. My hair is also very oily. I've never been able to get rid of the white cast that normal dry shampoos leave which is why I only use versions for dark hair. I wonder if this is the first non-tinted dry shampoo that would work for me.

  5. My sister has been hounding me about trying dry shampoo. I have very oily hair and know it would be beneficial. Maybe it's time to take the plunge. (;

  6. Sounds like a good one! I really like the Klorane Dry Shampoo-it's probably the best on I've tried. It really makes your scalp feel clean.

  7. I need to try it! My favorite dry shampoo is TIGI Dirty Secret but it's 4 times the price of this one.

  8. I think I may be the ONLY person that didn't like this. I still have like half a bottle, if not more that is just taking up space. LOL! I'm not sure why, but this made my hair feel dirtier when I used it. My hair is weird. Haha! My favorite dry shampoo's are Batiste and Klorane.

  9. Ha! Dry shampoo does seem to be a very person-specific product. The Naked one from Herbal Essences made my hair feel dirtier - I definitely know what you mean!

  10. I've never tried that TIGI one, Agata! Let me know if you end up giving this a go. PS: I picked up the Herbal Essences Naked mousse because of you and I LOVE it! Thank you for the rec!

  11. A clean scalp is gold! :) I haven't tried the Klorane one, mostly because this one is so cheap, so accessible (I'd have to order Klorane) and seems to jam with my scalp, lol!

  12. Oh gosh, yes, Kiki! It's been my oily hair godsend. I can wash my hair at 10 p.m. and wake up the next day with oily roots. Dry shampoo gives me the ability to not have to wash my hair 2 x a day! Give this one a try if you see it! I'd love to know if you like it!

  13. I've had that white cast experience myself! This one rubs away in a few fluffs. It's no fun having patches of white, like you just had an accident that involved flour, LOL!

  14. Ha ha! Sunny mentioned that dry stamps aren't a big deal in Taiwan, either! It's so cool to have international gangstas weighing in on the trends! I had no idea bronzer wasn't universally huge, either! Yea, if this was pricey, I would totally just wash 2 x a day, too! That's what I used to do in high school when no one knew about dry shampoo, even though Psssst! has been around since the '60s here!

  15. Ha! Thank you! I just figured those would be my three questions, so I should probably cut to the chase and answer them! I felt the same way about dry shampoo ("What's the big deal? They don't work!") until Clean Freak. It get rid of oil, and it's also a really nice texturized to put the pow in your topknot, lol! Can't wait to hear what you think if you pick this up! <3 Cheers and cheetahs!

  16. No one needs a tangled mess, Sunny! I wouldn't be excited about that at all! Speaking of, have you ever tried the L'Oreal Elnett Hairspray? I love it because it holds like a champ but is still gentle enough (I.E. non-helmet head-ish) to brush out. A dream for anyone with tangle-prone hair!

  17. I know it's very popular but I haven't tried it at all! I never really use hair spray ;)

  18. Wow yes, your hair sounds exactly like mine! It's on the list! (:
