To quote Snoop Dogg, "Greetings, loved ones! Let's take a
journey..." to the land of creamy, badass luxury! Today I'm sharing my beloved Urban Decay Revolution and Sheer Revolution Lipstick collection! How beloved, you ask? I had to fish four of these out of my purse to photograph them. You know it's true love when you carry them on your person.
When Urban Decay launched their Revolution lipsticks late last
summer, I didn't hop on the bandwagon straight away. I looked at the swatches on
Temptalia (standard!), but I couldn’t really decide if the MLBB pinks were too
warm or light for me. When I checked
them out in person at Sephora a few months later, some of the testers were
missing and the store was a mob scene. It
wasn’t exactly the zen swatching sitch
(love ya, Liz!) I was hoping for. My mom
(who embodies “badass luxury” and has been my makeup mentor for life) was the
first to take the plunge. She picked up
Rapture, a dusty plum, and fell in love!
She loaned it to me one day while we were having lunch, and YOWZAS! What a beaut!
She gifted me 2 of her Revolutions, Rapture (she repurchased a new tube)
and Rush (which she found a bit too light for her lip pigment scenario). I bought Naked for a steal on Glambot, and
Sheer F-Bomb and Sheer Rapture from Sephora after seeing Sheer Rapture on Lily at Chloe Ash and swooning.
Naked // Rapture // Rush
The Sheer Revolution formula is a dream for anyone who prefers a finish that's more glossy and less pigmented. It's more
emollient than Revolution without being overly slick or bleeding. The buttery formula does mean a shorter wear
time, so keep that in mind if you don’t enjoy reapplying your lippies
throughout the day. The pigmentation
of these varies. Sheer Rapture (is anyone else surprised it's not "Rupture"?? It is UD after all!) is the very definition of a swipe n' go, easy-breezy sheer, while Sheer F-Bomb was almost fully opaque in 3 swipes! [I apologize that I don't have Sheer F-Bomb on hand to do a lip swatch, by the way. #Fail] I think UD is using the term sheer more in regard
to the formula, which is a glossier, more jelly finish, than the original Revolution’s creamy, luminous
finish. For comparison, Sheer Revolution
lipsticks seem like a cross between MAC’s Lustre and Cremesheen formulas.
Thanks for the shoutout! And omg I love Rapture on you!!!! I need to check it out. Btw, do you find the sheer revolution lipsticks easily squished, or is it just me?
ReplyDeleteI'm not even surprised you got Rapture in both formulas: that's your shade! I keep meaning to try the new UD lipsticks but I haven't so far. Seeing so many of my beloved bloggers adore them, I've got to take my credit card out now LOL
ReplyDeletePretty! Rapture is your shade girl! It's perfection on you! I haven't tried any of these yet-so many lipsticks, so little time haha!
ReplyDeleteSheer Rapture is my favorite on you! And I love seeing all the bullets are evenly worn and loved. ;D
ReplyDeleteUD doesn't have a strong pull on me, so probably I won't buy one anytime soon but still I get so curious. Everyone seems to enjoy this range. :)
My gawd these are gorgeous. That Rapture shade was meant for you! (:

I love Naked, it has become one of my go to shades. I haven't seen the sheer ones yet but f-bomb, wow! I agree with the other ladies, Rapture is perfect on you!
ReplyDeleteYES SNOOP D-OH-DOUBLE-GEE. I actually have only had one little TINY experience with these lipsticks and am totally amazingly in love still. That's how potent their effect was! I tried Naked and it's just freaking FLATTERING ON EVERYONE/EVERYTHING (I'm pretty sure Lola could rock the Revolution)!!!! I love your photos and swatches! They all look great but Naked is still my strong favorite. I just like being Naked, K? Did I get weird? I got weird... Sorry..
ReplyDeleteI was about to join the revolution today in Sephora, but instead I FINALLY found Kat Von D's Coven lilac lipstick and it has been sold out for at least the last four months in every Sephora I visit. I picked up the last one they had, so... It had to be done...
Much LOVE!
oooh! these look lovely! I want them all now.
ReplyDeleteLMAO @ RUPTURE!!! UD should hire you, hahahahaha. My fave from the lot here is... Rupture! ;) ;) And henceforth, the ideal swatching condition shall be titled "zen swatching sitch." <3
ReplyDeleteNice UD collection, Kristen! I have only one regular and one sheer revolution but I love both of them. I am thinking of adding Revolution Sheer Streak to my summer collection because I am lacking some pretty peach shades.

Swoon, you got some great shades there! I have Sheer F-Bomb, Sheer Streak and Sheer Liar.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lily! I don't know about the squish factor -- I remember you mentioning it so I was careful to avoid applying it over-aggressively, lol! Thank you for that tidbit! I've definitely smashed a lipstick or two in my time.
ReplyDeleteHa! You know I live for UD Rapture! When they release the blush, you can bet your bucket list I'll get that, too! :) These lipsticks are really wonderful. You will not be disappointed if you pick one up, Sunny!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, T-$! I do love me some Rapture! I can't believe you've never tried one! That should change - you'd love these! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lena! It's always a good sign when the bullets are well-loved. You know I speak the truth when I say these are AMAZING! :D My only regret is waiting so long to try one!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kiki! They really are fantastic lipsticks; they're right up there for me with MAC which is my #1 favorite. What's your favorite lippie brand?
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I can definitely see Naked being a top pick for so many people b/c it's just a beauty! And thank you so much! I love Rapture!
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Stephanka! That is a potent effect! Naked is flattering on everyone - it's pretty awesome. I think it's really speaks to UD's skills with all things Naked. The Naked palette suits everyone and the lipstick is no slouch, either, lol! And ha! You're always weird, that's why I love ya! :) Congrats on tracking down the bounty of Coven! It did have to be done. I can't wait to see it on you!
ReplyDeleteHa! Have you never tried one before, Michelle? If so, I feel shocked! You need to check 'em out! I feel like Rush and Rapture would be insanely lovely on you!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, Liz! Right?! I mean, I kind of can't believe it isn't Rupture!! Their most well-known shade is GASH! Also, MILDEW and ROACH. DESPERATION just came to mind, as well. It should've been Rupture, I just feel it. ;) And yaas to all zen swatching sitch-es, lol!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Agata! I picked up Sheer Streak at the VIB sale but haven't opened it yet! I agree, it looks like a perfect pop for summer! Which regular Revolution one do you have?
ReplyDeleteI just got Liar (regular) and love it! Sheer Streak seems like such a Melissa shade! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, you need to tell me how you like it, show it on your lips maybe on IG so I can hurry up and get it too?
ReplyDeleteI have the Naked Revolution and it's my perfect nude shade.
It's so hard to narrow down. Nars was def not my fav. I've only had one I liked from them. Mac is great, but I tend to lean toward more long wearing brands. I've been messing around with lots of balms and long wear lippies. I LOVE the Rimmel lipstick in the red tube! It's the smell really, I could sniff it all day.
ReplyDeleteI will do that, Agata! <3
ReplyDeleteHa ha! It's always a good sign when you could sniff a lipstick tube all day, LOL! :) Have you tried the NARS Audacious? I've only tried one and it wasn't love for me, either. I found it really dry! I've got to check out those Rimmel lipsticks! Every time I look for them, the shades I'm interested in are sold out. Which says a lot about how beloved they are!
ReplyDeleteI have Catfight from the original Revolution line. It's a statement color that I don't wear everyday but it's incredibly beautiful and luminous!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the Sheer Revolution range yet. Do you happen to know how they compare to the new Lancome Shine Lover? I just got one of these and I absolutely love it, and it seems to be the same type of lippie: sheerer but still pigmented and bright (depending on the color) except that the shade I have leaves a long-lasting stain.
I haven't tried these yet!! I am so so late to the party but I can tell that there are plenty of shades in this line for me! :-) I'd love to get the sheer ones I always love a good sheer lipstick! :-)
ReplyDeletethese are some of my favorite lipsticks on the market! i looks like i need to check out 'rapture'
ReplyDeleteAll of the shades you have are so flattering on you! I haven't tried these myself, but I've swatched them once or twice and thought they felt nice. I really like the look of Naked!
ReplyDeleteYou had me at "cremesheen" because that's one of my favourite MAC lippy formulas! I've not tried these yet but as UD is finally available in Melbourne (via our Mecca Cosmetica chain) I'm going to have a little swatch - Naked looks very tempting from your swatches!
ReplyDeleteIf you are scooping up a Rimmel shade I can't recommend 104 and 107 more. Both are so lovely. I haven't tried Audacious. After my experience with two shades from Nars I probably wouldn't shell out any more $$. Unless they were suddenly reformulated. I was always iffy with their glosses too. I purchased Turkish Delight back when it was a craze and couldn't stand the smell.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recs! I was at CVS earlier and they were sold out of both of the shades you suggested! They must be popular! I will keep trying to hunt them down. :) I hear you on the old NARS glosses! They smelled AWFUL! They reformulated them last year and the new glosses are perfection. No scent, no taste, no sticky. They went form my least favorite to #1 gloss! So happy they listened to their customers and went back to the drawing board on those puppies! :D
